Emily and Hugh

Family and deep, true, loving connection was at the heart of Emily and Hugh’s wedding day.

It was the perfect example of how a marriage enriches so much more than the two people in the couple. It is a ritual that brings together and benefits everyone they love. Emily and Hugh wrote into their ceremony that the day was a celebration of everyone who was there, the community that loves, guides and supports them and which allows them all to grow and flourish together. And you could feel that.

It was a day full of emotion. I don’t think there was a single person who hadn’t cried by the end of the night, including me. And there was so much laughter. Starting when Emily and Hugh’s darling son threw their wedding rings into the pond!

The joy was overflowing, especially on the dance floor where we were treated to a set by Emily’s rock and roll parents (who handed out seemingly limitless supplies of leather jackets when it got cold). The wedding took place in their backyard where they had been married 34 years earlier with little Emily in attendance.

It was a magical day that truly felt like the best of what the world has to offer and was incredibly life affirming. It was a reminder to cherish your community and to always celebrate the people you love.

Thank you for letting me be a part of it, Emily and Hugh.
